Běchovice Square

On Tuesday, 27th February 2024, we officially launched the construction of the project “Běchovice Square – Implementation” by tapping the foundation stone. The new square in the central part of Běchovice will be spatially connected to the building of the Old Post Office and the recreational areas of the Fire Pond. The entire area will be reclaimed, enlivened with water features and small architectural elements such as benches and a drinking fountain.

The square will be realised in coordination with the relocation of the high and low voltage cable networks, and gradually over several months the new space will be built with sewerage, water supply and water features, electrical wiring and public lighting, sidewalks and roadways, as well as elements of urban furniture including a fountain and the construction of a new chapel with a view that will dominate the new square.

The purpose of the construction is to create a public space and to accommodate paved dispersal areas, pedestrian circulation, parking areas, vehicular circulation, urban furniture, traffic signs and urban greenery that will form a coherent set of plazas. At the same time, the space connects three important public spaces in Běchovice: the Old Post Office Courtyard, the new square and the relaxation park by the Fire Pond. The new square will thus provide citizens with activities for everyday use, but also offer facilities for social events: a neighbourhood festival, a firefighters’ pentathlon, Christmas, Easter and farmers’ markets.

The foundation stone was tapped by the Mayor of Prague Bohuslav Svoboda, Deputy Mayor Petr Hlaváček, Councillor Zdeněk Kovařík, Mayor of Běchovice Ondřej Martan and Deputy Mayor Petr Vich, and on behalf of the contractor Ridera Stavební – Vlastimil Kaňovský and POHL CZ – Petr Kašpar, where our company is the leading partner. On the same day, the construction site was handed over to the contractor and the work under the leadership of Martin Škopek can begin with the preparation of the area.
